: What are geomembranes

The word “geomembrane” refers to a very low permeability layer made of synthetic materials.
Geomembranes are made of geosynthetic materials in thin continuous sheets of impermeable polymer.
Geomembranes provide an impermeable barrier that prevents harmful pollutants or hazardous chemicals from leaking into the surrounding environment. It is also used as protection for potable water storage and irrigation storage needs to prevent leakage.
Geomembranes are used along with other geosynthetic products to control fluid movement and create containment in mining, wastewater treatment, and channel construction projects.

Types of geomembranes

Depending on the main resin used, several types of geomembranes are available. We have prepared a list of the most commonly used geomembranes for you.

  1. PVC geomembrane
    (pvc)
PVC (polyvinyl chloride) geomembrane is a warm and soft waterproofing material made of vinyl, softeners and stabilizers.
When ethylene dichloride is converted to dichloride, the result is polymerized to form the polyvinyl chloride resin used for PVC geomembranes.
    be made
PVC geomembrane is tear, abrasion and puncture resistant and is suitable for construction of canals, landfills, soil remediation, sewage lagoon liners and tank linings.
This material is also great for preserving drinking water and preventing contaminants from entering water sources.
  2. Geomembrane
    (TRP)

Reinforced polyethylene (TRP) geomembranes are almost identical to (RPP), but use polyethylene fabric instead of polyester.
It is an ideal option for covering your temporary holding ponds.
Geomembranes (TRP) are also a sustainable solution for soil amendment. Its physical properties include chemical resistance, low temperature range, and UV stability.
This type of geomembrane is used for canals, industrial tarpaulins, landfills, agricultural and urban uses.

Geomembranes. 3
(HDPE)

HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) is the most widely used geomembrane and is the default choice for liner projects due to its durability, strong UV resistance, and relatively inexpensive material cost.
HPDAs are often selected for use on exposed geomembranes such as landfills, tank linings, as well as pond and channel linings.
The reason for this choice is the low initial cost of the material and its high resistance to chemicals. And it is available in higher thicknesses that are not offered in other types of geomembranes.
HDPA geomembrane is also very strong compared to its weight and can withstand higher temperatures.
One of the best features of this geomembrane is its chemical and UV resistance, which makes it suitable for a wide range of applications that require high quality installation. In addition, HDPE is food safe, allowing it to be used in potable water storage.

  1. Geomembranes
(LDPE) (LLDPE) linear low density polyethylene geomembranes offer more flexibility compared to (HDPE) and are more suitable for installers who need impermeable geomembranes.
This product is made of virgin polyethylene resins, which makes it resistant to low temperature and exposure to ultraviolet rays.
Geomembranes (LLDPE) are also intended for long-term use and remain strong and durable for years.
Its best use is related to industrial applications such as liquid storage tanks, environmental and animal waste containers.
  2. Geomembrane
    (RPP)
Geomembranes reinforced polypropylene (RPP) reinforced polyester covers for long-term applications,
    Water and industrial waste.
It is made from a UV stabilized polypropylene copolymer which gives the material flexibility, stability and chemical resistance.
Geomembranes (RPPs) are excellent for applications where folding occurs due to uneven and inconsistent weather conditions.
Its strength and durability is due to the nylon scrim used in RPP geomembranes.
This type of geomembrane is usually used in urban, aquatic and horticultural applications, and for linings of evaporation ponds and mine tailings.
  3. Geomembrane
    (EPDM)
Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) geomembrane is a flexible and durable material that can withstand punctures and extreme weather conditions.
It has a texture similar to rubber and is resistant to UV rays.
Geomembranes (EPDM) are commonly used as surface barriers for dams and other irrigation canals. It is also easy to install, which is why backyard landscapers use this type of geomembrane.
It is also suitable for agricultural applications such as irrigation ponds as well as linings and covers.
